Three down, 12 to go!!
It started with an introduction, a simple hey you should know Lisa. I met Lisa and then Lisa wanted me on her radio show and then that's when the reason in the "Everything happens for reason" became crystal clear. Or at least a little less muddy.
You see I have often been frustrated trying to get local major market media to share our good news. I have really hated when the only time you saw a Major network news station on our communities it was because we were about to find out someone had been really bad, something bad had really happened to someone from here or something blew up or a tornado just changed the life of families right here at home.
I don't mean to admonish the news. They definitely have most of us figured out. They know we want to know. They have figured out the right amount of tease to get us to hang on for hours so that when they show the analytics to their advertisers they are sure they will see the value of their commercials. I get it...its business.
But here is the problem with that, I know how to find all the bad news, the things I must know to assure safety and recovery options. What I don't know is how to find the good stuff, or at least not all of the good stuff. I have managed to meet and become friends with so many awesome people in Johnson County and the daily work they do to make a difference in the lives of those they seek to support is beyond anything I could have ever imagined a few years ago. It brings me to tears often and it adds to my faith daily.
So how do I share this amazing stuff? Well facebook has long been my easy share, but honestly how many of us really read all the info? Our scrolling habits are fast and furious at the red light, a minute or two waiting in line etc. But there has to be another way...and there is.
A community radio program where good news is the bulk of the show. Where great events others would surely attend if they only knew about it and the heroes that are hidden on every street and most ever business right here at home.
So JoCo Community Radio was born. Shortly after that with inspiration from my friend Caryn came the MyCommuity segment. JoCo Community Radio is booked for weeks with great stories, wonderful guests and 99.9% good news. Because in real life if you took all the good news and made it your priority, added it to your gratitude list and decided that you would only seek to know about the bad stuff when it pertained to you, your family or your safety thats really about the percentage in most of our lives for most of the time.
Bad stuff happens, but in every moment when I felt lost, sad or somehow defeated some great person has shown up in my life to help me see the answers. And sometimes I got to be the good guy for someone else too. So it is with my great honor I say I am the Host of the JoCo Community Radio show, and you won't believe me if I tell you what comes next...but you can believe me its going to be GOOD for Johnson County!!!
If you would like to find out how to share your good news on one of our upcoming programs, please send a submission request to MyCommunityRadio@gmail.com
